Vintage French Feather Bed Tick

A large vintage French bed tick filled with feathers, rare and very difficult to find, especially in such great condition. It comes in traditional old wide navy blue and cream coloured ticking stripes as well as narrow stripes in between the wide cream and navy ones.

Tick mattresses, also known as bed ticks were traditionally referred to as 'bed' in Europe and were stacked on top of one another, often but not always, on top of a bedframe. Made using strong, stiff, tightly woven material, these mattresses were stuffed with materials such as feathers, down, straw or wool and other widely available materials typical of each region. 

Today, these are highly desirable decorative pieces that can be placed over a duvet for warmth, folded and used as a floor or bench cushion or stckaed over a metal bedframe for indoor or outdoor seating. 

Very well constructed, these traditional French ticks are hard to find, especially in such wonderful condition for a vintage fabric piece.
