HANDMADE FLUTED BERRY OR FRUIT BOWL

The ideal dish for plant-forward eating, the Berry Bowl and its larger counterpart the Fruit Bowl make washing fruits and vegetables simple and enjoyable. Glazed in a matte off-white glaze, these wheel-thrown bowls are finished with hand-carved fluting and small hand-carved holes that allow water to seep out of the base. The accompanying saucer allows the bowl to go from sink straight to table and act as a serving bowl perfect for breakfast or brunch.

The beauty of handmade ceramics lies in the unique variation and individual character of each piece. Skilfully hand-thrown and hand-carved using stoneware clay, each bowl is fired, glazed and re-fired in a process that takes several days to complete.

Handmade in Long Island City, New York, by a potter who has honed her skill over decades. With a strong belief that design should be functional and enduring, the maker mindfully selects stoneware for its durability and finishes her pieces with custom-made glazes designed to withstand daily use.

Before commercial glazes became widely available, many potters were handed down custom glaze recipes from the teachers they trained with. Preferring to honour and preserve these traditions rather than substituting them for the commercial glazes widely available today, our maker continues to create her own glazes from her bright studio in Long Island City, New York, just outside of Manhattan. She shares her studio space with several other potters, exchanging skills in throwing or glazing expertise and collaborative support where needed.

Size:

Small Berry Bowl: 16cm (D) x 9cm (H), Dish 11cm (D)

Large Fruit Bowl: 20cm (D) x 11cm (H), Dish 14cm (D)

Material: Stoneware.

Handmade in Long Island City, New York.

Care: dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. This range is finished with a matte glaze and as with all matte glazes, marks from sharp objects such as cutlery will begin to leave their trace over time. Most of these marks can be removed with baking soda and a scouring sponge, by buffing the baking soda into the dish for several minutes.

Note: Each piece is handmade and therefore expect that every individual item will be unique. Variations in shape and finish are part of the appeal of these imperfect pieces as are small flecks or imperfections in the glazing. We encourage you to embrace these as part of the charm of the unique artisanal process and to not look upon them as flaws.
