Vintage Handwoven and embroidered Grey Amazigh Zayane Kilim

A particularly long Amazigh Zayane carpet woven using a mixed-weave technique that combines flat weaving with embroidery. The rug features an undyed brown wool warp and burgundy wool weft, with blue and orange wool motifs and delicate off-white cotton embroidery.

This intricate weaving technique requires great skill and patience, often taking several months to complete. Sourced in Telouet in the High Atlas Mountains, the rug’s long proportions and flatwoven surface make it especially well suited to a dining room or other high-traffic space where both durability and visual interest are desired. The rich yet earthy palette, combined with the tactile embroidered detailing, gives the piece both graphic presence and depth.

With acknowledgement and gratitude to the woman weaver who conceived and crafted this unique piece. You can discover more about the Amazigh (“Berber”) weaving tradition here.
