Vintage Handwoven Afghan Mixed Weave Wool Rug

A more recent example of a handwoven mixed-weave Afghan carpet in deep muted colours of burgundy, rust and navy blue, forming an expanding lozenge centre, surrounded by an intricate alternating border. Woven using both the flatweave and hand-knotting techniques, the combination of the woven kilim and short pile makes this a practical and durable rug, even for high footfall areas. Made from 100% wool.

A note on the colour: the product images were taken in bright, midday south-facing light, directly under a window, lending a particular brightness and glow to teh rug. The effect on duller days and in winter or low light (as in the images with the sofa) is more muted. The first image with the carpet hung on the wall is more representative of the overall character of this calm and muted rug.
