SECONDS HANDMADE FLUTED BERRY BOWL
We have one small fluted berry bowl available, which has been classed as a second. Although there is nothing wrong with this item, it has been glazed and thrown slightly unevenly. While this is simply a variation in a handmade piece, due to these pieces no longer being in production, we will not be able to restock them and have therefore decided to offer this one slightly uneven piece at a reduced price. All sales are final.
Original product description:
Glazed in a matte off-white glaze, this wheel-thrown bowl is finished with hand-carved fluting and small hand-carved holes that allow water to seep out of the base. The accompanying saucer allows the bowl to go from sink straight to table and act as a serving bowl perfect for breakfast or brunch.
The beauty of handmade ceramics lies in the unique variation and individual character of each piece. Skilfully hand-thrown and hand-carved using stoneware clay, each bowl is fired, glazed and re-fired in a process that takes several days to complete.
Handmade in Long Island City, New York, by a potter who has honed her skill over decades. With a strong belief that design should be functional and enduring, the maker mindfully selects stoneware for its durability and finishes her pieces with custom-made glazes designed to withstand daily use.
Before commercial glazes became widely available, many potters were handed down custom glaze recipes from the teachers they trained with. Preferring to honour and preserve these traditions rather than substituting them for the commercial glazes widely available today, our maker continues to create her own glazes from her bright studio in Long Island City, New York, just outside of Manhattan. She shares her studio space with several other potters, exchanging skills in throwing or glazing expertise and collaborative support where needed.
