Vintage Moroccan Flat-weave Zanafi Rug in Black and White
An increasingly rare vintage Zanafi kilim, a flat-weave in alternating bands woven from undyed local wool in soft off-white and deep charcoal. Originating from the Aït Ouaouzguite region of the High Atlas Mountains, these weavings are often grouped under the name Taznakht rugs. Zanafi kilims are distinguished by their long, narrow form, intricately woven horizontal striping, and their characteristic side fringe.
Highly versatile in their use, Zanafi weavings were traditionally employed as sleeping blankets, laid over mats of leaves or grasses. Today, they are equally appreciated as striking floor coverings or textile pieces that bring texture, rhythm, and quiet graphic beauty to a space.
With acknowledgement and gratitude to the woman weaver who conceived and crafted this unique piece. You can discover more about the Amazigh (“Berber”) weaving tradition here.
