Vintage Moroccan Amazigh Half-Relief Beni Ouarain Rug

A calm and minimalist vintage Amazigh Beni Ourain rug, featuring a symmetrical small-scale lozenge grid in a half-relief motif.

The term half-relief refers to the weaving technique that creates a subtle, almost “hidden” pattern beneath the high ivory pile. The dark wool is woven in a shorter pile compared to the ivory, producing a delicate, barely-there design on the high-pile surface, while the pattern is more distinctly visible on the reverse side.

The lustrous, lofty medium-sized pile in ivory and charcoal is crafted from handspun Moroccan wool sourced from local sheep. The rug is finished with a single red line woven just above the tassel ends at the bottom and another red line at the top before the kilim weave section, adding a subtle, elegant accent.
