Antique Guatemalan Textile No 5
A beautifully hand-embroidered antique textile from Guatemala, later overdyed in a rich palette of terracotta, rust, and warm ochre that gives the piece a remarkable depth and warmth while preserving the intricacy of its original embroidery. The densely stitched surface is composed of geometric motifs, stepped forms, stylised birds, and symbolic patterns arranged in rhythmic bands across the textile. Small accents of sage green, muted plum, peach and soft rose emerge throughout the embroidery, adding subtle contrast and highlighting the extraordinary craftsmanship.
Finished with long fringes in varied earthy tones, this textile possesses both visual richness and a wonderfully tactile quality. Whether displayed as a wall hanging, layered over a console or dining table, or used as a decorative textile within the home, it brings warmth, texture, and a strong sense of artisan heritage to an interior. Condition: Good antique condition, with age-appropriate wear, minor fraying, and gentle irregularities consistent with its age and previous use. The later overdyeing has been sympathetically carried out, preserving the intricate embroidered detail while giving the textile renewed life and versatility.
Care: As a result of the overdyeing technique, we advise hand washing only when absolutely necessary. Please note that the colour may bleed.
