Antique Guatemalan Textile No 7
A beautifully hand-embroidered antique textile from Guatemala, overdyed in a rich terracotta hue that lends the piece warm character while allowing its intricate embroidery to remain the focal point. The surface is densely decorated with geometric motifs arranged in repeating bands of diamonds, zigzags, and stylised forms, all stitched with remarkable precision. Subtle accents of indigo, sage green, muted plum, and soft ochre emerge through the overdyed ground, adding depth and complexity to the composition.
The combination of traditional Guatemalan craftsmanship and the later overdyeing process creates a textile that feels both historic and contemporary. Rich in texture and pattern, it works beautifully as a table runner, console covering, or decorative accent, bringing colour, history, and artisan craftsmanship into an interior. Material: Handwoven cotton with hand embroidery.
Size: approximately 25 cm x 47 cm without tassels.
Condition: Good antique condition, with age-appropriate wear, minor fraying, and small losses to the embroidery and edges consistent with its age and previous use. The later overdyeing has been carried out sympathetically, preserving the intricate stitched decoration while giving the textile renewed life. The textile has some fading to the overdyed colour in the fold lines.
Care: As a result of the overdyeing technique, we advise hand washing only when absolutely necessary. Please note that the colour may bleed.
