Vintage Beni Ouarain Rug with Double Lozenge Chains
This vintage Moroccan Amazigh Beni Ouarain carpet features a simple and well-balanced design, centred around two lozenge chains and framed by a minimal black border along either side. Subtle checkerboard detailing runs along the top and bottom edges, while a braided fringe finishes the lower end of the rug.
Woven in a medium pile using both light and darker tones of undyed local wool, the rug displays a pleasing natural variation in colour and texture. Its construction allows it to work equally well pile-side down as it does pile-side up. Thick, sturdy, and versatile, this is a classic vintage Beni Ouarain piece that remains in good condition for its age. The structure is solid, with light marks visible on the reverse side.
With acknowledgement and gratitude for the woman weaver who conceptualised and crafted this unique item. Please take the time to discover more about the Amazigh ('Berber') weaving tradition here.
