Vintage Moroccan Amazigh Stripe Looped Hanbel

A vintage Moroccan Amazigh Beni Ouarain hanbel, distinguished by its looped-pile construction rather than the deeper double-knotted pile more commonly associated with traditional Beni Ouarain carpets. Characterised by broad horizontal bands of rich charcoal brown industrial yarn running across an ivory field, the design places the emphasis firmly on texture, rhythm and material rather than intricate pattern.

Handwoven from local, undyed Moroccan wool, the soft looped pile has a wonderfully tactile quality, while lengths of recycled industrial yarn have been thoughtfully incorporated into the weave to give it a distinctly modern feel. Flecks of blue and orange industrial yarn emerge subtly along the lower edge and within the dark bands, adding vibrant pops of colour and celebrating the resourcefulness that has long been a feature of Amazigh weaving traditions.

Finished with colourful tassels at one end, this contemporary hanbel would bring texture and a sense of style to a contemporary interior.
