Vintage Moroccan Amazigh Azilal Carpet in Cream with Yellow, Blue and Brown

A vintage cream Amazigh rug featuring a yellow, brown, and turquoise design of vertical lozenges and chevron chains, with additional central symbols. Two of the three chains break apart as the pattern progresses. The rug is framed by a border in the same colour palette. It originates from the Azilal province, or nearby areas in the eastern High Atlas of Morocco.

The cream pile is hand-knotted using local handspun ivory wool, while the warp and colour accents within the pile are made from industrial yarn, often repurposed from clothing. The rug is overall in good vintage condition, with a few small earth stains, visible in the accompanying images. Its soft structure, typical of Azilal rugs, makes it best suited to low-traffic areas of the home.

Size: Approximately 255 cm x 140 cm (without tassels).

Age: 1980s–1990s.

Materials: Local Moroccan wool and recycled industrial yarn (wool and cotton).

Condition: Used vintage condition, with a few earth/clay stains and some wear to the cream pile, as shown in the images. The rug has a loose structure typical of Azilal carpets, however the purple weft at the top is particularly loose in one section, making it more suitable for areas with less footfall. Please review the condition carefully, and contact us with any questions prior to purchasing.
