New Handcrafted Brassware Collection from Kyoto

New Handcrafted Brassware Collection from Kyoto

We are happy to introduce our new collection of hand crafted brassware by Nikkei Misae from Kyoto, Japan. Using the ancient technique of lost wax casting, Nikkei brings to life the delightful tiny details of her intricate designs. With this technique, each item is first carved by hand into wax moulds which are subsequently used to create the finished item in brass.

With a background in jewellery making Nikkei Misae began experimenting with making cutlery during lockdown. At a time when eating out in restaurants was severely restricted, Nikkei began using her skills as a jewellery maker to craft handmade pieces of the kind found in high end restaurants. By crafting her own eating utensils, Nikkei found that she could create the atmosphere of a special occasion even within the confines of her home. Cutlery has since become her bread and butter, making up the majority of the items she crafts.

We collaborated with Nikkei to create this beautiful collection of handcrafted brassware that includes the Bident and Scorpion Serving Spoon and Fork, Spice  Spoon, Tea Strainer and Petal and Ball Dish as well as the beautifully decorated Lines and Leaves Spoon. All of these items were crafted entirely by hand by Nikkei Misae in Kyoto Japan and are available for purchase in our shop.
